FLEOA Stands with ICE Amid Los Angeles Unrest, Calls for Urgent Support and Reform

WASHINGTON, DC- As violent unrest continues to escalate across Los Angeles, the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA) proudly stands in full support of the brave men and women of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), who are operating under extraordinary conditions to restore order and uphold federal law.

ICE leadership has demonstrated exceptional courage during this crisis. Director Todd Lyons and Deputy Director Madison Sheahan traveled directly to the front lines not to observe from afar, but to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with agents and officers risking their lives to protect our communities.  This is what true leadership looks like.

“These federal officers are doing more than enforcing immigration laws; they are defending the rule of law in the face of chaos. They are being physically targeted, doxed, and threatened, online and in the real world,” FLEOA National President Mathew Silverman wrote.

“Many ICE personnel operate in sensitive or covert roles, and they wear masks not to intimidate, but to shield their identities and protect their families. Forcing them to unmask jeopardizes both their safety and ongoing investigations. This stands in stark contrast to violent agitators who wear masks to avoid accountability. Our agents wear masks to serve. Rioters wear them to destroy,” he added.

FLEOA also commends FBI Director Kash Patel for his clear and forceful statement, “If you assault a law enforcement officer, you’re going to jail—period.” That’s the kind of leadership this moment demands.

We applaud President Donald Trump and his administration for their swift and decisive action. The deployment of the National Guard to Los Angeles and the administration’s public backing of ICE sends a powerful message that our nation’s law enforcement will not be abandoned.

Unfortunately, our officers are not only battling violence in the streets. Many are also struggling under outdated and unjust federal compensation policies. Long hours, high-risk missions, and the rising cost of living in cities like Los Angeles are compounded by rigid federal pay caps that prevent officers from being fully compensated. In some cases, field leaders earn no more than those they supervise despite the added responsibility and risk.

FLEOA is calling on the administration and Congress to take immediate action to lift these pay caps and pass long-overdue reforms. Among the key legislative priorities are the Law Enforcement Officer Equity Act, the Law Enforcement Fair Retirement Act, expanding overtime tax relief to include federal law enforcement, and enhancing Law Enforcement Availability Pay. These reforms are essential to national security, officer retention, and recruiting the next generation of dedicated public servants.

Public safety and civil liberties are not in conflict; they are mutually reinforcing. Our officers are committed to protecting both. Now more than ever, we must stand together to uphold justice, restore order, and ensure that those who serve our nation are fully supported, protected, and respected.

We stand united with our ICE agents and officers, and we will continue to fight for the recognition and support they rightfully deserve.
