FLEOA Endorses EAGLES Act

February 7, 2021

Honorable Charles Grassley
United States Senate
135 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington, D.C. 20510

Dear Senator Grassley,

We are writing to you with our full support for the reintroduction of the EAGLES Act in this Congress.  On February 14th, 2021 we will mark the third anniversary of the Parkland, Florida School Shooting. In light of recent violent events during the pandemic, rise of extremism of every swath and attacks against law enforcement, it is more important than ever that we learn and become better at identifying and preventing acts of targeted violence.

The EAGLES Act would reauthorize and expand the Secret Service’s National Threat Assessment Center (NTAC), which researches targeted violence to assist law enforcement in learning how to identify and prevent violent attacks from a focus on behavioral traits. The NTAC has already done amazing work that has informed law enforcement, schools, corporate America, and the public on ways to identify potentially violent behavior and reduce that targeted violence by early intervention.  The EAGLES Act would provide and enhance the training provided to schools and law enforcement that better equip them at identifying at-risk individuals and intervene before violent conduct occurs.”

Early intervention is always critical for avoiding the types of violent acts our nation has witnessed in the past year.  The EAGLES Act would give schools and the law enforcement community the tools they need to be able to protect our communities.

We look forward to working with you to see the EAGLES Act swiftly enacted into law and appreciate your continued efforts to ensure the important work that NTAC does is shared across the country.

Sincerely,

Larry Cosme
National President
