WASHINGTON,
DC – Today, Larry Cosme, National
President of the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA), issued
the following statement regarding the attack on Federal Bureau Investigation
(FBI) agents in Sunrise, Florida:
"It
is with a heavy heart that we learn of the losses and injuries sustained by FBI
agents in Florida this morning. FLEOA joins the entire law enforcement
community in keeping the agents, their families, and the FBI in our prayers.
Special Agent Daniel Alfin and Special Agent Laura Schwartzenberger, as well as
the three injured officers and all those who responded to this tragic scene,
are heroes to our nation. This horrible attack was a reflection of the violent
individuals law enforcement officers encounter every day. However, the
coordinated response and outpouring of support the news has brought, is also a
reflection of the strength of our law enforcement community,” said President Larry Cosme.
"This
attacks hits close to home since FLEOA members were among the agents under
attack. While we know all law enforcement enact their duty well aware of the
potential sacrifice, it is our mission to ensure officers and agents never feel
they must go through it alone. It is vital for our nation's law enforcement to
be supported and protected while working to take these dangerous and violent
individuals off the streets. FLEOA offers our absolute care and backing as the
FBI and these agent's families deal with the aftermath of this tragedy. We
thank all law enforcement officers and agents for their service and devotion to
our nation,” Cosme continued.
