Repeal of the Schedule F Executive Order

Fellow FLEOA Members,

Last fall, former President Trump signed an executive order (E.O.) establishing a new job classification within the government’s career civil service called Schedule F for "employees in confidential, policy-determining, policy-making or policy-advocating positions.” This E.O. also asked all agencies to identify and convert eligible employees to the new classification.

FLEOA immediately voiced objection to the Administration over our concerns that many law enforcement positions could be swept up into this new Schedule F. This would undermine the apolitical nature of law enforcement and introduce unprecedented political pressure that has no place in law enforcement agencies.

Additionally, we messaged that objection to Congress and weighed in with support of legislation aimed at repealing this ill thought out new schedule.

We are appreciative that among President Biden’s first actions is to fully repeal the Schedule F executive order. In so doing, President Biden’s actions will remove the threat of politics influencing law enforcement and restore the apolitical nature of the important national security missions we undertake.

Fraternally,

Larry Cosme
