Reintroduction of the Fair RETIRE Act

FLEOA is proud to announce the reintroduction of the first responder Fair RETIRE Act in both the US Senate and US House of Representatives.

This legislation has been a priority issue for FLEOA to ensure any federal law enforcement officer disabled in the line of duty remains in their law enforcement pension system.   FLEOA was successful last year with having a COVID specific version of this bill passed into law but is hoping to have the full version of the bill enacted.

Fair RETIRE seeks to address the current disability that forces a disabled federal law enforcement officer out of their pension system and so to an inferior pension. This occurs no matter how long a federal law enforcement officer has been in the law enforcement pension system.

FLEOA has long viewed this as bad policy and an injustice to those that protect and serve but are injured while protecting America.

Sen. Tester (MT) and Rep. Connolly (VA) have been supportive of this issue for years and remain stalwart supporters of ensuring that this is fixed so an injured federal law enforcement officer isn’t forced onto an inferior pension system after being injured in the line of duty.

Please see the attached letters to both Sen. Tester and Rep. Connolly.

As we work on this priority issue in this Congress, we remain focused on making sure any injured federal law enforcement officer never feels that they are going it alone.  We look forward to the rapid passage of this bill.

Thank you
