Statement on Violence on Capitol Hill

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Larry Cosme, National President of the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA), issued the following statement regarding the ongoing violence in the U.S. Capitol:

"As defenders of the U.S. Constitution, we respect all Americans right to protest, but storming the US Capitol building is not an act of protest. It is an act of anarchy. FLEOA vehemently condemns violent attacks against law enforcement and trespasses onto federal property. There are lawful ways in which individuals can express grievance against their government. The current violence taking place at the Capitol is unlawful and dangerous. Those inciting and perpetuating violent activity must be arrested and prosecuted for the safety of all Americans and our democracy,” said President Cosme.

"FLEOA stands by our US Capitol Police and the other federal law enforcement components working dutifully to maintain public safety. During times of civil unrest, the brave men and women of our federal law enforcement agencies do not shy away from protecting our citizens, our lawmakers, and our national security against all enemies, foreign or domestic. We hope for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing unrest,” President Cosme concluded.

FLEOA is the nation’s largest non-partisan, not-for-profit professional association representing more than 29,000 federal law enforcement officers and agents across 65 federal agencies.
