End of 2020 Gov't Budget Status

December 18, 2020

Fellow Members,

As you may know, Congress has been debating a combination coronavirus response and appropriations package over the last few weeks. The federal government has now been operating under a continuing resolution (CR) since October 1, and last week Congress passed yet another one-week CR that expires today at midnight. If it does and another short-term funding mechanism is not passed, we would experience a government shutdown this weekend. If that occurred, it would most likely be short and just for over a couple of days while Congress and the White House wrap up the final details on the major spending and coronavirus package.

We are monitoring the situation closely and it appears possible they will pass another short term CR. But the possibility of a gap in funding does exist. As such, we have been in contact with Congress to express our desire that a gap in funding does not occur and, if it is inevitable, that our members be fully compensated for any work performed during the temporary shutdown.

As the situation develops we will keep you informed and know that FLEOA will never let you "Go It Alone.”

Fraternally,

Larry Cosme
