FLEOA Statement- MCCA Midyear Violent Crime Surve

FLEOA Statement on Major Cities Chiefs Association Midyear Violent Crime Survey

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                                  August 10, 2020

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Larry Cosme National President of the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA) issued the following press release in response to the Major Cities Chiefs Association Midyear Comparison Violent Crime Survey, which highlights a dramatic rise in crime around the nation:

"The Major Cities Chiefs Association Midyear Comparison Violent Crime Survey documents the dangerous conditions occurring in jurisdictions across America. The fact that homicide rates in the first eight months of 2020 have surpassed the total homicide numbers of 2019 is alarming,” Cosme continued. "The anti-police rhetoric and policies adopted by some jurisdictions have clearly created conditions for this dramatic rise in violent crime to occur. Yet some of these same jurisdictions have rejected or thwarted federal support.”

"All Americans deserve to live in a safe community that is protected by law enforcement officers who work in a coordinated fashion to target and reduce violent crime,” Cosme explained. "It is time for politics to be set aside so the people can see the police doing their mission - finding and thwarting dangerous criminal behavior.”
