COVID-19 Update from President Cosme

March 18, 2020

Dear Fellow Members:

As our nation responds to the COVID-19 situation, it is important to remember to follow the basic CDC recommendations and your local guidance. The health of you and your family is the most important focus right now.

FLEOA has reached out to the White House and relevant Departments to ensure federal law enforcement agencies are being given prudent guidance. Since many federal law enforcement officers cannot practice social distancing, it is imperative that you are supported to minimize the risk of exposure. We are recommending all our members follow your agency’s guidance related to minimizing travel and following other risk management protocols related to COVID-19. We also encourage members to follow the current law enforcement specific guidance from the CDC, available here.

FLEOA has been in communication with our supporters on Capitol Hill to ensure our member’s issues and concerns remain a priority for Congress as Representatives pass legislation to support the nation during the COVID-19 response.

We have also confirmed that, no matter what duty status or location you are in, agencies are ensuring that you remain in a paid status. This is important to FLEOA because we know it is important to you. We will be monitoring this over the next few weeks. FLEOA has contacted the Department of Labor to ensure that any exposure risks that are diagnosed will be completely covered.

As an association, our top concern is our members and their families. FLEOA has many different tools for our members to help navigate any issues arising from this situation. FLEOA's sponsors, including our financial advisors at Janney Wealth Management , can assist anyone dealing with financial impacts. For insurance or other issues please check our sponsors’ page . For spiritual needs, our chaplains can be contacted here.

All members are advised that effective immediately, all of our contracted outside attorneys have been instructed to cease all travel on FLEOA ongoing and new cases. This travel restriction includes any previously scheduled appearances at chapter meetings, events, and related functions. Attorneys are available 24/7 and will continue to provide legal services on current and new cases using e-mail, telephone, video conferencing, and conference calls to communicate. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this emergency.

In addition, the FLEOA Foundation stands ready to assist anyone requiring their services.

FLEOA's top focus is ensuring our members and their families never feel as if they are alone. Our motto is "Don't Go It Alone.” We will always remain united and strong.
