Support of Federal Marijuana Ban

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

November 19, 2019

WASHINGTON, DC – Larry Cosme, National President of the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA), today issued the following statement regarding the House of Representative’s consideration of the Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement Act (MORE Act), H.R. 3884.

"FLEOA is a strong supporter of continuing the federal ban against marijuana,” Cosme said. "As the nation grapples with record high deaths due to substance abuse and historic levels of narcotics smuggling from south of the border, the last thing we need is to open the floodgates with this documented gateway drug.”

"We cannot endorse legislation that allows dangerous drugs to enter communities already struggling with drug addiction, which tends to disproportionately impact minority communities. Instead we encourage Congress to consider legitimate means to mitigate the addiction epidemic within our country,” Cosme continued. "We have always been and continue to be eager to assist Congress and the law enforcement community in removing narcotics from our streets and preventing substance abuse.”

FLEOA is the nation’s largest non-partisan, not-for-profit professional association representing more than 27,000 federal law enforcement officers and agents across 65 federal agencies.
