Federal Response to Series of Threatening Package

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OCTOBER 25, 2018

WASHINGTON, DC – The Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA), the nation’s largest non-partisan, not-for-profit professional association representing more than 27,000 federal law enforcement officers and agents across 65 federal agencies, today released a statement on the series of explosive packages that have been discovered this week, all of which were addressed to prominent public figures.

"The cowardly display of hatred and terrorism we’ve witnessed this week -- with an as-yet-unidentified perpetrator choosing to hide behind anonymous packages in the planned destruction of innocent lives – is deplorable,” FLEOA National President Nathan R. Catura said. "Yet we are grateful for the bravery and commitment demonstrated by the federal law enforcement officers who have sprung into action to ensure a quick conclusion to the attempted attacks.”

"While this situation is regrettable, we are heartened to see the federal law enforcement officers and agents we represent capably tackling the challenge from all sides – with agents and officers from across the federal government, including the brave men and women at the Secret Service, ATF, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, all of whom are working collaboratively to track and intercept these packages, to offer personal security protection and selflessly ensure the safety of their assignees, and to spearhead investigations into the matter,” Catura continued. "We are also proud of the cooperative efforts offered by state and local law enforcement, who have been invaluable in the response, thus far.”

"That none of the packages have thus far had their intended, violent goal is a testament to the effectiveness and necessity of our federal law enforcement agencies,” Catura concluded. "Moreover, the perpetrator behind this week’s attacks can rest assured that every step will be taken to ensure he or she is quickly brought to justice.”
