FLEOA Endorses Thin Blue Line Act

January 8, 2015

The Honorable David Jolly
1728 Longworth HOB
Washington, DC 20515

Dear Representative Jolly:

The Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA) values your recognition and support on Law Enforcement Officers Appreciation Day. Additionally, your ongoing leadership on
behalf of law enforcement officers with the introduction of the Thin Blue Line Act (H.R. 814) is greatly needed and appreciated.

In 2015, we saw a precipitous rise in ambushes against law enforcement officers, resulting in 124 officers killed in the line of duty. Just yesterday in Philadelphia, while driving a patrol car, a police officer was ambushed and shot 13 times by a violent criminal. These kinds of vicious and calculated attacks should be viewed as an assault on the rule of law and our community at large.

As anti-law enforcement rhetoric has emboldened and clearly incited those on the fringe towards violence, a message must be sent that an attack on America’s front line of protection deserves maximum punishment.

The Thin Blue Line Act provides makes that message clear and ensures that any attack on a law enforcement officer is seen through the correct lens - one colored in American red, white and blue.

FLEOA appreciates your sponsorship of this bill and hopes for its swift passage.

Respectfully,

Don Mihalek
FLEOA Legislative Director
