FLEOA ASKS PRESIDENT OBAMA TO TAKE EXECUTIVE ACTION AND ORDER THE DOD TO PAY FOR THE BURIAL OF HERO ARMY CID SPECIAL AGENT JOSEPH PETERS

Washington, DC ‐ Today, the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA) is appealing to President Obama to take executive action in order to ensure all related burial/funeral expenses for hero Army CID Special Agent Joseph Peters are paid by the Department of Defense (DOD) immediately. Special Agent Peters was fatally wounded while serving in Afghanistan on a mission. In spite of Special Agent Peter's heroic sacrifice for his country, the DOD program that administers financial support has been curtailed as a result of the government shut down.

In recognition and honor of the ultimate sacrifice made by fallen hero Special Agent Peters, FLEOA National President Jon Adler has pledged his organization's full support to Special Agent Peter's family.

Appealing to President Obama, Adler stated, "Mr. President, yes, you warned Congress in advance, and yes, they are responsible for continuing the government shut‐down. But please take the higher ground and initiate executive action to pay for all related expenses for the funeral arrangements of our fallen hero, Special Agent Joseph Peters, and all our fallen military heroes. The government is responsible for all expenses and payments on behalf of our fallen heroes who protect life and property; not just their salaries. There is no greater priority for our government."

FLEOA is not taking a position on any of the legislative action, or inaction, thus far. However, FLEOA does maintain that amidst the family's grieving, they shouldn't be saddled with the additional financial burden of figuring out how to pay for the funeral arrangements of their beloved hero.
