Failure to Support the NOAA Fisheries Office

Dear Dr. Lubchenco,

It has come to the attention of the Federal Law Enforcement Officer’s Association (FLEOA) that our NOAA member agents continue to be the subject of one sided & biased attacks that the upper management and leadership of Commerce and NOAA have failed to address. Specifically, there continues to be a failure on your part to address the systemic issues that continue to plague the NOAA Fisheries, Office for Law Enforcement. This is evidenced by the fact that NOAA leadership stated they would not seek to correct the record with respect to Special Master Swartwood’s report.

Not withstanding the measures you have already implemented to address management and outreach issues with enforcement constituents, the vast majority of our NOAA members are frustrated by the lack of support and many are seeking employment with other federal law enforcement agencies.

FLEOA is the largest federal professional law enforcement association representing over 26,000 federal agents and officers from over 65 agencies. Our efforts to resolve issues affecting our NOAA members appears to have fallen on the deaf ears of NOAA’s leadership.

Our NOAA member agents are considering legal action to protect their livelihoods and reputations from these continuous accusations based on opinion rather than fact. Our attorney’s are poised to protect our NOAA members as well as delivering our message to the respective Congressional Congressional subcommittees with jurisdiction over NOAA matters.

I look forward to discussing this with you at Senate field hearing in Boston, Massachusetts later this month. Thank you for your time and consideration with this matter.
