Get It Done on Immigration Reform

FLEOA Urges Congress: Don't Dabble In Immigration Reform; Get It Done.

Washington, DC ‐ Today, the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA) sent a resounding message to Congress regarding the passage of Immigration Reform legislation: Get It Done.

As Congressman Paul Ryan stated during his Fox News interview, the Senate bill that has been passed is NOT an amnesty bill. FLEOA would like to know why the House won't take up the Senate bill, and pursue the opportunity of making changes via the mark‐up process in committee. While FLEOA understands the theory of the piece‐meal approach put forth by the House leadership, FLEOA questions if this will ever lead to any meaningful immigration reform legislation in the foreseeable future.

While the Congress delays acting on this vital issue, the underground economy and criminal enterprises continue to flourish. This only serves to weaken our tax base and overwhelm law enforcement officers. If we continue to ignore the reported 11 million undocumented aliens in our country, criminal enterprises will continue to recruit from this group, and identity theft will continue to build its customer base. How much longer can we endure this while the Congress embraces their sound bites and not viable legislation?

FLEOA is appealing to the House to consider the Senate bill, and make sure border security and resources for ICE are prioritized. FLEOA National President Jon Adler is urging Congress to act now, and stated, "Law enforcement officers can't effectively protect our country if we're forced to continue looking for terrorists and gang‐bangers in an immigration hay‐stack."
