FLEOA Issues Cease and Desist Order to TSA for Policy that Exposed Federal Air Marshals to Unsafe Lead Levels
Washington, DC – Today, the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA)
announced that it has issued a CEASE AND DESIST order to the Transportation
Security Administration (TSA) for persistent actions of TSA’s Senior Management
of exposing Federal Air Marshals to dangerous lead levels at contracted gun
ranges.
As reported in the Seattle Times, for several years Federal Air Marshals were exposed to excessive and
unsafe lead levels at the ranges that FAMS Management had mandated they perform
firearms qualifications at. These affected employees were never notified of
their potential exposure, given the opportunity for medical evaluation and potentially
continue to train at firearms ranges that are not cleared and deemed by OSHA as
safe for lead levels.
"Ironically,
FAMS Director Roderick Allison was quoted saying the following, "As we work to
uphold the high standards required to ensure the safety of passengers, measures
are in place to safeguard the well-being of our employees,” FLEOA Federal Air
Marshal Agency President Frank Terreri stated. "Yet, Director Allison has
ignored FLEOAs request regarding unsafe lead levels, neglected to notify
affected employees putting them and their families, who also were potentially
harmed due to lead transfer, in a compromising position.”
