Don’t Tax Our Fallen Public Safety Heroes Act

January 23, 2015

The Honorable Erik Paulsen
U.S. House of Representatives
127 Cannon House Office Building
Washington, DC 20515

Dear Representative Paulsen:

On behalf of the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA), which represents 26,000 members from 65 federal agencies, I am writing you regarding our full and complete support for the "Don’t Tax Our Fallen Public Safety Heroes Act.” We appreciate your continued leadership on this important issue.

The bill would amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to exclude certain compensation received by public safety officers and their dependents from gross income thereby ensuring that the federal government does not collect income tax from the survivors of fallen law enforcement officers and firefighters who receive PSOB or state death benefits. This will provide great relief for surviving dependents of a public safety officer who has died as the direct and proximate result of a personal injury sustained in the line of duty.

FLEOA appreciates your time and effort regarding this fundamental legislation. Please do not hesitate to contact me for further discussion on this important issue.

Respectfully,
Frank Terreri
National Vice President for Legislative Affairs
