A Message From The FLEOA National President re: Badge of Bravery
(August 1, 2007)

I am pleased to announce today that the FLEOA proposed Congressional Badge of Bravery legislation was introduced in the US House of Representatives by Congressman Brad Ellsworth (D-IN) with the strong support of House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer.

I personally met with House Majority Leader Hoyer several weeks ago and he offered his full support for this FLEOA initiated legislation. I have personally worked with Congressman Ellsworth’s staff on this legislation for the past few weeks. Congressman Ellsworth was a career law enforcement officer who was recently elected to Congress. He is a strong supporter of Federal law enforcement.

In conferring with Congressman Ellsworth’s staff today, it now appears that no action will be taken on this legislation until Congress reconvenes in September, after the summer recess. I hope the House of Representatives will fast track this legislation then. We will also be working to have a companion bill introduced in the US Senate.

You can view this legislation on the congressional website: thomas.loc.gov and the bill number is H.R.3211 (Federal Law Enforcement Congressional Badge of Bravery Act of 2007).
